How do I share my story in one minute?
YOUR STORY ABOUT JESUS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! WE FIGHT EVIL BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS AND OUR TESTIMONY, THE BIBLE SAYS. BUT HOW DO WE TELL OUR STORIES?
The bible encourages us to always be ready to explain what we believe in. The apostle Paul said that his testimony was "accurate and sane", so why should not ours be the same? In our culture people are constantly bombarded with information, so to get their attention you have to be focused and sharp. It is much easier to tell your story about Jesus when you have been practicing with your friends. If you practice and work on your story while praying to God for an opportunity, God will send people that are ready to listen in your way.
First you have to find the relevant elements in your story. How did you meet Jesus? How was your life before you met him? Why do you follow him? In what way has Jesus changed your life? Things like the exact date and time, the weather, where it was and everyone who was there might not be that important. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you with the details.
Write down your whole story, and start edit it down to 10 sentences. This can be a tough task, especially if your story is long with many important details. If it is hard, imagine that you have the opportunity to tell your story to a friend that is walking for the bus - and the bus just rounded the corner. Now you have to speed up to finish your story before the bus arrives - your friend needs to hear the happy ending of your story!
When you have finished the editing, you can start to learn it by heart. Practice alone - loud - enough times to make you confident. In this phase it is important to constantly edit your text to avoid words that are confusing for non-believers. To say that you have "made your robe white in the blood of the Lamb" might be biblical, but you will probably get a confused stare back. After a while you can rehearse for some trusted friends. If you are lucky, they will give you feedback on your story.
Then you are ready at all times and God will send open people your way.
With some practice, you will be able to share your story in one minute. Continue to practice on your friends, remove difficult words and phrases. Pray for boldness and wisdom. God is with you!
